  • Produced over 7,600 events, 2,000 (over 25%) were free for the public.
  • Welcomed over 1.7 million people to events at the Sydney Writers’ Festival.
  • Visited over 50,000 primary school students from low socio-economic areas with Russ the Story Bus, bringing them some of Australia's most beloved children's authors and a book to keep.

The mission of Sydney Writers’ Festival is to connect writers with readers and create a community for everybody to experience the transformative power of storytelling, words and ideas. 

Sydney Writers' Festival is a not-for-profit organisation, 25% funded by state and local government, 40% ticket sales and 35% through private giving and philanthropy. 

We could not do the Festival without you. 

Donations can be one-off or an ongoing monthly gift. As a not-for-profit organisation and registered charity, all donations of $2 or more to Sydney Writers’ Festival are tax deductible. Contributions between $1,000 and $1,999 are acknowledged on our website and in our printed Festival Program. Donations of $2,000 or more make you a member of our Patron program.

Your donation will have a direct impact in allowing us to

  • Present over 300 Australian and international writers annually from all stages of their careers. 
  • Expand our out of season offering into a full year-long program of talks and events allowing us to bring you more authors, more books and more discussions.
  • Ensure over 30% of Sydney Writers' Festival events remain free each year – removing financial barriers and ensuring the Festival remains accessible to all who wish to attend.
  • Champion local Australian writers and bring the very best international writers to our shores.
  • Connect over 100,000 readers in person annually at the Festival.
  • Offer vital training and professional development programs to 300 volunteers who engage in our volunteers program each year.
  • Offer paid internships to recent high school and university graduates, enabling them to gain industry experience and kick start their careers.
  • Livestream the Festival to over 130 regional communities across the country, reaching over 10,000 individuals and removing the barriers of isolation and distance.
  • Reach over 8,000 students annually through our Primary and Secondary education programs. 
  • Visit over 10,000 students in low socio-economic areas in NSW each year with our outreach program, Russ the Story Bus.
